Come raise a glass and toast to the new space in Friedrichshain!  We have 106 sqms to bless, and a new sound system to christen, so be sure to adequately hydrate.  Its been a long, strange trip getting here – let’s ring in the new and start things off right – together!  With guest artist James Perley providing some select sounds for everyone’s edification, while the hostess plies you with food and drink, let’s make it a night to remember.  Cat snuggles at kitty discretion…

James Perley is an American composer and interactive media artist from San Francisco, California. His electronic compositions are complex and improvised, leaving room for errors that may or may not become serendipitous. James’ performances study “non-strategic strategy,” a compositional practice that examines subconscious creativity.

“I believe there is a certain freedom in performance and composition in not knowing exactly why and how a musical decision is made. This is how I began as an artist and a musician—believing that there are layers upon layers of undiscovered territories and pieces that I have yet to write. Modification, tinkering, and layering have always been a part of my practice; whether sculptural, spatial, experiential, or musical design, adjusting and refining technology is always present. In order to obtain desired results in my work, I document each performance to study improvisational decisions I have made throughout a given piece.”
