At this very special event, the focus will be on the history of improvised singing coming out of the free jazz, sound poetry, and contemporary art music traditions. Dr. Chris Tonelli will read excerpts from his forthcoming book Voices Found: Free Jazz and Singing and we will hear performances by several of the vocalists featured in the book, including Berlin-based vocalists David Moss, Tomomi Adachi and Ute Wasserman; Canadian vocalist Gabriel Dharmoo; and Netherlands based vocalist Chris Tonelli, as well as discussion of the history and theory of this vocal work.
Since we’re a hybrid concert space/home studio – when you reach 61 Boxhagener Strasse (on the corner with Neue Bahnhoffstrasse) – you’ll see the door is between Cafe Süss and Pizza Pause. We’re in the DG on the right – name “Renee Therese Coulombe” on the bell. There is an elevator at the top of the first steps – press 5 and come on up! We’ll greet you at the top.
