Are you an artist who wants to enhance your spontaneity and your overall practice? Do you long for opportunities to work with artists from other disciplines, styles and genres, and for critical feedback from professionals? Are you a composer, choreographer, musician, dancer, poet or performance artist wanting to hone your skills and develop your creative techniques beyond your technique? Free improvisation is spontaneous art-making without restrictions from discipline, genre or style – whether you want to build your skills to a professional level, or just want a reliable place to be challenged and inspired, this workshop is for you.
This weekly improvisation workshop is designed for artists from all disciplines and at all levels of practice who want to immerse themselves in inspiring new creative techniques and genres. Each week we will focus on hands-on exercises designed to be engaged across disciplines, performing and listening to one another and discussing our results. This course is perfect for professional artists wanting to expand their aesthetic horizons and enhance technical skills. Likewise, for student artists who are developing their practice, or just getting used to performing in front of small, comfortable groups as a way of enhancing future performing. Finally, for the amateur artist who wants to keep learning, growing and challenging themselves, this weekly workshop is the opportunity to expand and share your practice.
Participants in the weekly improvisation are offered the opportunity to perform during scheduled concerts at the Willows Nest; Audio and video recording for artist portfolios are available during every session – contact the instructor for more information.
